History of Veer Bal Diwas
The tenth Guru of Sikhism, Shri Govind Singh had four sons, Ajit Singh, Jujhar Singh, Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh. In the year 1699, Govind Singh founded the Khalsa Panth and these four Sahibzaades were part of the Khalsa.
It was the year 1705, Punjab was ruled by the Mughals at that time. The Mughals were trying their best to capture Guru Gobind Singh. In this struggle, Guru Gobind got separated from his family. His wife Mata Gujri went to some secret place with her sons Baba Zorawar Singh, Baba Fateh Singh and cook Gangu. At that time Baba Zorawar was only 7 years old and Baba Fateh was 9 years old. Due to greed, cook Gangu got them all captured by Nawab Wazir Khan of Sirhind. By that time Baba Ajit Singh and Baba Jujhar Singh had been martyred during the war with the Mughals.
Nawab Wazir Khan tortured Mata Gujri and both the younger Sahibzadas a lot and asked them to change their religion but they refused to do so. Then Wazir Khan got both Sahibzadas buried alive in the wall. That day was the date of 26 December. When Mata Gujri came to know about this, she also gave up her life. To honor their martyrdom, the Government of India announced in the year 2022 that 26 December will be celebrated as Veer Bal Diwas.
